City Council Moves Mariujana Ordinance Process Forward
At the Regular City Council Meeting of April 18th the City Council by unanimous vote provided approval for the City Manager to proceed with drafting the related ordinance(s), resolutions and other required documents related to the City approving and providing for a retail site for the location of future marijuana establishments. The future ordinance will likely be structured to allow the Council to first approve the site licensing for medical marijuana establishments including dispensary, a cultivation facility and/or production facility and at a later point in the future, when and if the Council deems appropriate, address the potential site licensing for recreational marijuana. The ordinance will also address zoning and building requirements and licensing fees related to the approved site location.
The vote taken on the 18th followed an education tour which the Elected Officials took at the Deep Roots Harvest facility in Mesquite, Nevada on April 10th where cultivation, production and sales of medical marijuana and how such facilities operated under Nevada law were covered in depth at a fully operational facility. Additionally the Council was provided input from the Elected Officials of Mesquite on the medical marijuana business operation and how it impacted their community.
The ordinance process requires multiple steps and will take several months to complete, with the City Council considering the adoption of such an ordinance likely in late June or early July with an effective date the end of July or first of August.
