Dressing properly for your court appearance is extremely important.  It will be essential in not only expressing your understanding of the seriousness of the hearing, but will also help assure a safe and appropriate environment.  You will not be allowed into the courtroom unless you are appropriately dressed.

The following is NOT appropriate dress for courtroom appearances:

  • Shorts
  • Tank Tops
  • Halters or Bar Midriffs
  • Mini-skirts
  • Hats
  • Bare feet
  • Flip Flops
  • Clothing with emblems that condone illegal or inappropriate activity
  • Sunglasses

The following is the suggested dress for courtroom appearances:

Men – Collard Shirts. Slacks or denim trousers.  Appropriate footwear.

Women – Dresses, skirts or slacks and blouses.  Appropriate footwear.

Attorneys – Business Attire.

Cell phones are to be turned off prior to entering the courtroom.  Gum chewing, food and drink are not allowed.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask the Bailiff prior to your appearance.

Court Security CourtSecurity_001

We take court security seriously.  The court has an onsite bailiff who screens all individuals prior to entering the courtroom.  Each bailiff is Category 1 P.O.S.T certified.  It is important for your safety, and the safety of others, that you do not bring any weapon(s) or anything that appears to be a weapon into the courthouse.  Because every individual is screened, it is often best to leave unnecessary items in your vehicle or at home.

If you are a witness, victim or Temporary Protective Order applicant, and you are uncomfortable with waiting in the lobby for a hearing, please notify a clerk and we can have the bailiff escort you into a separate area of the courthouse.
